Poetry Slam Poster Series & Video Ad

The Posters

This project involved creating a series of poster ads for an event that promoted a group of three noteworthy people; I chose to work with a poetry slam featuring the work of Edgar Allan Poe, Laurence Dunbar, and Allen Ginsberg. The communication goal was to illustrate the poets' morbid, fed-up attitude with being unable to speak out and be heard. This was accomplished by depicting a key line from a poem as a cluttered word cloud held back by imagery relevant to each poet, and with a dark, monochromatic color scheme to emphasize the distressed mood portrayed in each of the poets' work. Below are the original final posters.

Video Ad

I added kinetic typography to enhance the word clouds in each poster, chose panning transitions to match the unending feel of the emotions depicted in the authors' poetry, and layered soundbites over the music to individualize each poet's section. I took out the textures and extra text detail in the posters to simplify the amount of information presented at one time in the video.
